  SKILLS:

Reporting: At The County Star, I wrote about championship sports teams, the Norfolk Southern
railroad's efforts to built a connecting line through a residential area and local government. I used
my editorial page to focus attention on local issues. Major stories during my career include a
renovation at the Illinois School for the Deaf that exposed students to lead paint dust, as well as
efforts to cover up the incident, a five-part series on the problems facing foster parents, the arrest
of a grade school teacher on sex abuse charges and on the crash of an F-16 jet in a local farmer's
  cornfield.

Pagination: I used Quark XPress on a daily basis at The County Star to design 12 tabloid
newspaper pages each week. This often including building display advertisements. I also use MS
Publisher and other programs. I use HTML to create Web pages for myself and family members..

Photography: I was responsible for most photography and darkroom work at the LABOR Paper
and ran the darkroom at the Daily Ledger when the regular photographer was absent. I took most
of the original sports and news photographs that appeared in The County Star.
